Two Systems

Two systems and no third source. One arrives already moving; the other has to be built.

Everything you do comes through urges or choices. You govern choices. You are only ever aware of urges. Neither is better. The right one for the moment is.

What it rules out

You probably hear

an urge is something low — a craving, an itch, the impulse to say the cruel thing

Set that down. An urge is anything that arrives in you already moving — complete, direction baked in, before you had any say. The flash of anger, yes. Also the swell at your child’s first steps, real laughter, the instinct that something is wrong before you can name it. It is one entire half of how a person runs, not your lower nature.

You probably hear

a choice is any selection at all — you chose the blue shirt

Set that down. A choice is something built. It does not arrive, it waits. It has no direction until you give it one.

You probably hear

the fix is to be more rational

Set that down. Neither system is better, and the theory ranks the moment rather than the system. The decision-wrecking error is not feeling — it is a wanted feeling mistaken for sound logic.

How it is built

Everything a person does comes through one of the two, and there is no third source. A thing arrives, or you build it.

The asymmetry is the claim: a choice waits for you to make it, so it is yours by construction — you can hold it, revise it, reverse it, refuse it. An urge is not available on those terms: you are only ever aware of urges, at best witnessed in time for the witnessing to matter.

Which leaves the craft, and the foundation names it fit — the match between a moment and the system it is calling for: being fully in whichever one the moment actually wants, and switching cleanly when it changes. That is the whole of practical wisdom in one word.

Where it meets the others

Where the ground is unwalked

How the switch is thrown. “How is the switch between systems actually thrown?” — marked open by the foundation itself, and on the site’s unwalked list. Fit says which system a moment wants. It does not say by what mechanism a person changes over.

The edge of this page. Two systems, the asymmetry between them, and the word for using them well. The case that there is no third source is an argument, and it is in the sealed work.

Nothing on this page is composed. Every sentence is drawn from what is already published here — the front page, the glossary, the questions and the Reports. Where a claim is compressed, it is compressed from one of them and adds nothing they do not say. The argument is in the sealed work.
